The digital world is transforming at the speed of light. The adoption of new technologies, expansion into the cloud, and distributed workforces all leave attack surfaces undefended. Join us to learn why scanning and patching are no longer adequate, how to collect the right data, and how to remediate with network context.

October is the European Cybersecurity Month. This is a great opportunity to raise awareness of Internet security. During our meeting, we will focus on the safety of the youngest children - those who are just getting their first with technology and those who are already quite good at it. We invite teachers and teachers of preschool and early childhood education to the webinar. We will tell you more about the European Cybersecurity Month initiative. We encourage you to join this action, organize and submit an event in kindergarten or school to the European map. We will go through the registration form step by step, but most of all, we will give suggestions of activities that can be carried out with children (or parents) in kindergarten and school on the occasion of the European Cybersecurity Month.

Ransomware is modern piracy: Where it comes from, why we should care, and what we should do. In this webinar we will tell the story of ransomware – a fascinating take of Somali pirates and East European crime lords. We will examine the current form and impact of the crime and discover why the GÉANT community should be seriously concerned about this insidious threat. Finally, we will discuss what we need to do to avoid becoming a ransomware victim, and how we should prepare if the worst unfortunately happens. Speaker: Charl van der Walt - Head of Security Research, Orange

Although the threat of ransomware is not new, it has recently become a major challenge for European citizens, businesses and even states. In the last few years, a number of advanced, targeted ransomware attacks have caused significant damage to European economies and societies, crippling critical institutions such as hospitals in the process. As a result, the problem has now entered the global political arena, and leaders of the European Union and other countries have expressed their commitment to work together to address the urgent and escalating threat of criminal ransomware networks that pose risks to citizens and companies. While some well-established and successful projects to address ransomware – such as the global NoMoreRansom initiative – already exist, there is still room for improvement regarding greater coordination and cooperation between relevant actors in the wider cybersecurity ecosystem. Presenting the perspectives of these actors, including law enforcement, the industry, the cybersecurity community and the public sector, the EU Cyberpolicy Forum will give an overview of the current changes in the ransomware threat landscape and will discuss how an effective joint strategy to tackle ransomware could look like. We aim to contribute to this important debate with the next edition of the Kaspersky EU Cyberpolicy Forum series, gathering top-class speakers from different stakeholder groups and regions: • Eugene Kaspersky, CEO, Kaspersky • Dan Cîmpean, General Director, CERT-RO • Jérôme Notin, Managing Director of Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr (GIP ACYMA) • Haya Shulman, Head of Cybersecurity Analytics and Defenses, Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology SIT We are very much looking forward to your participation!
