Evidence and measurement in IG: What sort of data and numbers are we talking about?

Geneva Internet Platform

Paradoxically, although the Internet is an engineering artefact, we have very little data relevant for IG. In cybersecurity, we are still in doubt about the number of threats and the size of the losses incurred. The same applies in other IG fields. Without understanding the scope of the problem, it is difficult to discuss possible solutions. What can be done to bring more evidence in IG, using what concrete tools and techniques? How should an IG observatory function?

The Geneva Internet Conference, organised by DiploFoundation and the Geneva Internet Platform, will address critical issues, gaps, and future developments in Internet governance (IG) and digital politics. The conference in November is preceeded by discussions and preparatory activities on key conference themes. Each theme will be introduced in an hour-long webinar with open participation. The outcomes of the discussions will feed into the conference.

The October IG webinar, on 28 October, will introduce the third theme of measurement and evidence in IG, and will be presented by Diplo director Dr Jovan Kurbalija. Participants are encouraged to distribute information (via existing mailing lists, etc.), engage in substantive debates bringing all the interested parties to the table, and provide a summary of what has happened at national level around each theme.

Join us for the webinar on Tuesday, 28th October, at 13:00 CET (12:00 GMT). To register, please fill in the registration form.
