Meetup: Data privacy and protection
Date: 18 Oct 2017

How dangerous are the applications we install on our mobile phones? What are the privacy risks when we surf the Internet? These are just some of the questions that will be answered during the meetup: “Data privacy and protection“ that will be held in Novi Sad on October 4th, 2017. From the perspective of partners on the EU Horizon 2020 project Privacy Flag, Alexandros Kostopoulos, Ph.D. (OTE Greece) and Nenad Gligorić, Ph.D. (DunavNET) will speak about the privacy challenges today. Phishing scams, malicious software apps; How Android app permissions work, what they mean, why we should pay attention to them and what are the ways to stay safe – these topics will start the privacy conversation. Then follows the review of issues related to the EU rules on personal data protection and privacy (The General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR). What are the obligations in terms of using data on the Internet and through mobile applications: what information is used, how it is processed, who is responsible for the data, and what is "the right to be forgotten"? The highlight of the event will be a presentation of the tools (browser add-on and mobile app) developed under the Privacy Flag project for privacy risks assessment. All the participants will have a chance to test these tools and make a contribution to their evaluation.
